Culture and Enjoyment: experience Wels

The main sights in Wels

Wels has made a name for itself as a shopping and trade fair town. The cultural attractions of the town are still little known – another reason to discover wels for yourself. The town's most famous landmarks are the Lederer Tower and the town wall. Wels Castle and Gardens is well worth a visit. Here, the municipal collections give you the opportunity to discover everything about the history of the town; this permanent local history exhibition provides a deep insight into the region's history. The castle gardens provide a treat for all those interested in flowers. Hobby gardeners can enjoy varying flower arrangements. The House of Old Salome on the town square stands out as a wonderfully colourful town house with its Renaissance decoration.

The Minorite monastery, with its spectacular frescos and choir, dates back to around 1280. Today the monastery serves as an events arena and archaeological museum. A Roman house has been renovated and converted into a museum showing the day-to-day lives of our ancestors.
